Margaret Covell Partner & Private Equity Search Practice Leader

Margaret, leader of the firm’s private equity practice, has thirty years of experience working with businesses on strategy development, capability building, and organizational change. Results-oriented and a problem solver by nature, Margaret has spent her career partnering with CEOs and their teams to drive profitability and equity value creation. As a result, she brings unique insights, a deep network, and a passion for helping leaders align their company’s vision and purpose, talent, and capabilities.

In 2006, Margaret joined private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners as the firm’s first female Managing Director to build the Strategic Resource Group, a team of operating professionals who work with portfolio company teams to implement strategic initiatives.

While at THL, she was actively involved with companies in healthcare, advertising and media, CPG marketing, and bedding. Prior, Margaret was a Partner at Monitor, a global strategy consulting firm, where she served clients in private equity, heavy goods manufacturing, textiles and home furnishings, distribution, and health care. She also built and led the operations strategy business unit.

Committed to promoting women leaders in the PE sector, Margaret is a Strategic Advisor to Hypatia Capital, a private equity firm focused on sponsoring female CEOs. Margaret is also active in the non-profit sector. She’s an Executive Fellow at the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership focusing on the private equity space, and Board President of Partners for Youth with Disabilities. Margaret earned a BA from Colgate University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
